An armed encounter between Urdaneta City Police Station and a notorious carnapping group happened around 2:38 AM on September 11 in Urdaneta City.
The encounter stemmed from an earlier police operation along Marcos Highway, Baguio City wherein PNP Baguio were able to identify and locate the warehouse of the criminal gang.
The said gang was believed to be involved in carnapping and highway robbery cases in the regions 4A, NCR, 3, 1 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
During the said police operation in Baguio City, the operatives spotted a silver Toyota Innova with the plate number NRQ 496 in the vicinity of the warehouse. The vehicle then suspiciously sped off to south direction and they followed it immediately.
A coordination with nearby PNP units transpired, causing the death of the suspects after they exchanged fires with Urdaneta City police operatives.
In an investigation carried out by the SOCO, they were able to recover two authentic PNP athletic uniforms, a PNP bull cap, and four identification cards in the crime scene.
Suspects were identified as Jomar Esguerra, Ronnie Chico, Arnold Pilo, and Gilbert Bacunawa. The identity of the other suspect is yet to be determined.
The bodies of the suspects are still being autopsied at NUP Crime Laboratory, Urdaneta City.
